The Volunteer Services Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day management of volunteer resources and implementing a comprehensive volunteer engagement plan. This position ensures that volunteers are effectively integrated into the community and that volunteerism is a positive experience for both volunteers and SJJCC teams. The ideal candidate will be extremely well-organized, have excellent people skills, and be capable of strategically filling skilled volunteer positions, as well as designing and delivering on community-wide days of service throughout the year. Additionally, this role will oversee all three pillars within our Center for Community Engagement, including SJJCC’s Community Needs Bank and our Linda & Gerald Marsden Social Responsibility Pillar.
Essential Duties + Responsibilities:
Volunteer Recruitment and Placement:
- Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies
- Interview, select, and place volunteers in appropriate roles across the agency
- Develop volunteer position descriptions and maintain and update the volunteer handbook
- Maintain volunteer database – update volunteer profiles, maintain schedules, track volunteer service hours and service episodes, including analytics for financial and other reporting
Community-Wide Days of Service:
- Develop a mission-driven volunteer engagement strategy for days of service throughout the calendar year
- Recruit volunteer leaders and participants and engage community partner organizations
- Engage committees and team members
Training and Support:
- Conduct volunteer orientation and training sessions
- Complete all volunteer onboarding, including background checks, identification cards, orientations, etc., and provide ongoing support to volunteers and team members engaging with volunteers
- Develop, place, and manage volunteer leaders and project captains
- Ensure compliance with SJJCC policies and procedures
Managerial and Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversee the operations of all three pillars within our Center for Community Engagement
- Supervise and support volunteer coordinators and team members within each pillar
- Develop and implement strategic plans for each pillar, ensuring alignment with the overall mission and goals of SJJCC’s Center for Community Engagement
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and initiatives within each pillar, providing regular reports to the Associate Executive Director, Community Engagement
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment among volunteers and staff, promoting teamwork and shared goals
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- 3-5 years of experience in volunteer management or related fields, such as human resources/talent management, community outreach, or social services
- Must be extremely well-organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and adjust to changing deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Strong communication skills. Must have a high level of interpersonal skills and professionalism to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel) and database management.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
