Lifeguard
Our Per Diem Lifeguard is responsible for assisting in supporting and enforcing rules and regulations and for the safety of the pool facility within the lifeguard certifications. He/she/they are also responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons within the pool area (s) by preventing and responding to emergencies. Applicants must be responsible, alert, reliable, and have a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
How You’ll Help Us Be Successful:
- Enforce and follow pool rules and use proper lifeguarding procedures when needed
- Educate members and non-members on safe water habits
- Monitor pool areas as assigned
- Maintain constant surveillance of members and non-members in the pool area
- Act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of members and non-members in the event of an emergency
- Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical service
- Perform appropriate water rescues when necessary
- Assist with various camps and programs as assigned
- Participates in special events as directed by the Aquatics Director
- Perform various opening and closing duties as described on the daily to-do list
- Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
- Prepare pool surroundings for daily use, including but not limited to straightening tables, chairs, pool equipment, and offices; and disposing of trash and debris
- Keep the Aquatics Director informed of any problems arising with members and non-members
- Report all accidents, administer first aid, and incidents with an injury report
- Check the quality of the pool water for the required times, record measurements, and any abnormal pool readings
- Check all safety equipment when coming on duty and report any unsafe conditions to the Aquatics Director
- Attend all scheduled lifeguard training sessions.
- Attend to specific setup, breakdown, and/or cleaning duties adherent to your shift
- Report to the Aquatics Director any substitutions, pool maintenance problems, discipline problems, abnormal pool chemical readings, and any safety concerns
- Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor
What You’ll Need To Be Successful:
- American Red Cross CPR/AED for the professional rescuer
- Nassau County Lifeguard Certification (IA or IB)
- Swim lesson instruction or coaching experience preferred
- Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred
- Reliable team player with the ability to work under pressure and multitask
- Excellent communication with employees, members, and guests
- Enthusiastic, friendly, positive attitude and professional appearance
